Russian House in Nice is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The celebrations are timed with A. Pushkin’s birth anniversary, according to the website of the House of the Russian Expat Community.

It was decided to mark another anniversary at the same day – 40 years of professional career of President of Association Perspective Internationale Helene Metlov. She worked as a teacher of the Russian language for many years, including several years in Lomonosov Moscow State University. After moving to France, she organized a chamber choir in Nice called Metelnice. Few people in her team spoke Russian, however, listening to the Russian compositions, they decided to study the language. The Russian language course gained much popularity. Soon a club of the Russian colloquial language was set up. It was called Samovar. The guests of the club – both Russian-speaking and French-speaking studied the Russian colloquial expressions, had tea-drinking parties, chatted and played. The studying was divided into several stages – the initial stage, the intermediate stage, the advanced stage and the last advanced stage of deep studying of the grammar through the Russian literature.

There were active exchanges between schoolchildren and students. Children studied languages in the summer camp working every year. Exchange road tours of young musicians from Russia and France were arranged. The contest titled Eternal Russia became a long-lasting tradition. All these versatile activities made organizers think of opening the Russian social - cultural center – the  Russian House in Nice.

The courses of the Russian language were developing very fast over this time. Helene Metlov published her study book. There are numerous contests, musical events, artistic exhibitions. Russian Cinema Days are conducted in Nice for the last few years with participation of the Russian House.
