A monument to St. Seraphim Sarovsky was unveiled in the Novo-Diveyevsky Covent located at the territory of the New York State, TASS informs.

Orthodox Christians, diplomats, cultural figures and Russian compatriots took part in the gala unveiling ceremony. The opening of the monument was timed with the anniversary of signing the Act on Canonic Communications between the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, which happened 11 years ago.

Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov sent a congratulating message stating that restoring unity of the Russian Orthodox Church played an important role making a way to the spiritual consolidation of the whole Russian word. According to the diplomat, appearance of the sculpture of the Saint, the most worshiped and loved by the Orthodox Christians, at the territory of the Novo-Diveyevsky Monastery is a bright event in spiritual life of the Russian community.

The Monastery founded in the middle of the last century welcomes people from all over the continent. People come here for praying every Sunday. Besides, the largest Christian cemetery is located at the monastery.

The monument presented by the Russian Foundation called Dialogue of Cultures – United World was unveiled next to the Monastery Church named after St. Serafim Sarovsky.

Serafim Sarovsky is one of the most honored monks in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. He lived in the second half of the 18th century – in the beginning of the 19th century. He was a hermit, he wore the same robes in summer and in winter and found his food himself. Many pilgrims came to him including the most prominent figures such as Emperor Alexander 1.
