Trans Siberian and Trans Korean railroads are ready to be connected

31.05.2018

The only missing piece in connecting Trans Siberian and Trans Korean railroads is political decision of DPRK and South Korean leaderships. According to  the head of Coordinating Council on Trans-Siberian Transportation Gennady Bessonov, our country has already began its work on connecting the two routes, RIA Novosti reports.

CCTT Secretary General has recalled that the agreement on the two railroads' connection was signed about 10 years ago. The public signing ceremony took place in Vladivostok. This document was never cancelled, Bessonov underlined. “Technically we're ready to connect Tans Siberian and Trans Korean railways. We just have to let the cargo traffic go,” he has added. The political disagreements between Pyongyang and Seoul is the unique obstacle in resolving the situation.  Bessonov expressed the hope that the political dialog will bring fruitful results in this field.

Let us remember, the Trans Siberian broad-gauge project is planned to connect Košice with Vienna. Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia and Austria participate in it. It is planned to locate a logistical link in Austria if the 400 km railroad to be built. At this moment the the Broad-Gauge project is still at the pre-production stage.
