The court of Latvia revoked the sentence to the Russian human rights defender in Latvia Vladimir Linderman. He was let free, according to the Facebook account of Alla Berezovskaya.

He was detained in the beginning of May, and then the court decided to arrest the public activist. The court proceedings were conducted behind the closed doors.

Arrest of Linderman is supposedly connected to his speech at the All-Latvian Parents’ Meeting.

At present, the human rights defender Alexander Gaponenko stays under arrest. He also advocated for protection of the Russian schools in Latvia. He was arrested at the end of April.

Note that Prime Minister of Latvia Māris Kučinskis called the Russian schools’ defenders radicals. He has claimed that arrests are simply a response of the state security services to possible anti-state activities following the protest strikes.

Prime Minister has assured that other activities of the Russian schools’ defenders will also be stopped due to their radical character.

The Russian Union of Latvia called the governmental activities political repressions limiting the freedom of speech. The Party promises to continue fighting for freedoms of its compatriots.
