The meeting of the Russian State Duma delegates with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was very constructive, according to the member of the committee of the lower house of the Russian Parliament for International Affairs Sergei Zheleznyak. In his opinion, the conversation demonstrated a high degree of trust in relations of the two countries, RIA Novosti informs. The State Duma delegates paid a visit to Syria on April 11.

Sergei Zheleznyak has also mentioned that Syrian leader is determined to continue protecting national interests of the country and its integrity. Besides, he is trying to restore the civil life in the country.

A missile attack by the Western coalition could not affect firm attitude of the Syrian authorities and change the population’s mood, the Russian politician added.

Parliament members criticized aggressive actions of Washington, London and Paris directed at the sovereign Syria. Russia is still ready to support Syria’s intention to settle the political situation at the international level despite the Western counteraction, the State Duma deputy added.
