Russia’s Permanent Representative to UN: US and its allies vote against investigation of chemical attacks in Syria

11.04.2018

US and its allies are against true investigation of claims on chemical attacks in Syria, according to Russia’s Permanent Representative to UN Vasily Nebenzya. He has underlined that this is proven by their refusal to vote for an alternative variant of the resolution on Syria, TASS reports. Nebenzya said this in the course of his speech at the UN Security Council session.

Diplomat has responded that the situation is very tenuous, which evokes great concerns. The world is on the threshold of the events, which might inflict very sad consequences. Russia’s representative has addressed the Western countries to think twice before making a strike on Syria.

He has also expressed hope that the mission aimed at investigation of the chemical attacks in Syria will soon arrive at Duma. Russian soldiers and Damascus will secure its safety, the diplomat has promised.

An alternative draft to the resolution on the supposed chemical attack in Syria prepared by Sweden and supported by Russia did not win enough votes at the polls conducted during the UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

Vasily Nebensya has mentioned that the provocation with the chemical attack was very beneficial to the terrorists who desperately needed support by the Western countries and received this support in due course. At this, the Syrian authorities did not need this act of chemical weapons’ usage at all.

Russian Foreign Ministry called the information on the chemical attack in Duma city near Damascus fake news. The Western countries hastened to accuse the country’s authorities of this attack.
