Foreign students will come to Yakutia

09.04.2018

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Ministry of Education of Yakutia and the University of the Arctic, according to the Yakutia-Sakha Information Agency. The main purpose of this document is to develop collaboration between higher educational institutions.

According to the Ministry’s spokesman Mikhail Prisyazhny the memorandum will also make it possible to create new conditions for students’ exchanges in the countries of the Artic region. Memorandum is a great step on the way of closer cooperation between the Arctic universities.

Rector Deputy of the University of the Arctic Outi Snellman believes that the northern regions in different countries have one issue in common – young people after graduation do not return home. The University of the Arctic provides a chance for students to study in other universities of the northern countries and to return home after getting new experiences.

The memorandum supposes setting a reciprocal flow – students searching the Arctic will come to Yakutia more often. The Arctic is a stone’s throw away here, according to the University of the Arctic’s representatives.

They underlined that local higher educational institutions present majority of scientific papers on the subject of the Northern regional studies that’s why many scientists are trying to come here. There is a lot to study here.
