Kemerovo governor Aman Tuleev has applied for resignation after 21 years of staying in the office. His letter was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. One of Mr Tuleev’s deputies, Sergei Tsivilyov was appointed as acting governor, RIA Novosti reports.

In his video statement Tuleev said that the tragedy in The Winter Cherry Mall affected everybody, and all world mourns with Kemerovo. The official noted he did everything he could. He met with the families of the deceased and of the victims, arranged the assistance for them. The ex-governor called his resignation “the only true, conscious decision.”

As Russkiy Mir reported earlier, 64 people have died in a mall blaze. Most of them were kids.
