Today, on 28th of March, is the 150th birth anniversary of Maxim Gorky. Gala and festive activities are planned all over Russiain honor of this jubilee. The 2nd International Literary Festival named after Maxim Gorky was opened last Monday in Nizhny Novgorod, a native city of the writer. Leading literary figures from Russia, neighboring countries and beyond came to take part in the festival. The festival is supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

Russian Post has prepared a fascinating gift for the anniversary. A new post stamp dedicated to Gorky is presented to the audience in Kazan. The gala presentation of the post stamp will be held in the Gorky and Shalyapin Museum. The ceremonies will also be arranged in Moscow Central House of Writers, according to the Year of Literature website. An event titled A Known Stranger dedicated to Maxim Gorky will also be held on March, 28, in the evening.

The activities are planned in other cities too. Thematic meetings, round tables will be organized in schools, libraries, cultural centers.

Maxim Gorky (his real name is Alexey Maximovich Peshkov) was born on March 28 in 1868 in Nizhny Novgorod. He is one of the founders of social realism. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize for three times. Besides, he was the most published Soviet writer.
The 150th birth anniversaary of Maxim Gorky is registered in the list of UNESCO commemorative dates.
