The Orthodox cathedral of the Holy Virgin was sanctified in the city of Torrevieja, Spain. It was named in honor of the Patron Saint's Day of the church community. The church is located in a beautiful place just in 400 meters from the Mediterranean Sea next to the recreation zone named the Park of Europe, IA Interfax reports.

Bishop Nestor of Korsun carried out the ceremony of sanctification.

More than 400 Orthodox believers gathered at this solemn ceremony, including the members of the congregation, pilgrims and guests of the church community from all over Spain.

The building for a new temple was purchased last Autumn and constructed in accordance with the Orthodox Church code. A patch of land of 1200 square meters was also purchased. The first church sermon in the unsanctified cathedral took place already at Christmas. The priests are proud of the icons in their possession: The Iverskaya Holy Virgin icon with a piece of the holy relics of the Zverinetsky Saints, icons of St. Nicholas and of St. Spyridon of Trimiphunt and of St. Luke of Simferopol and Crimea and many other icons with pieces of the saints' relics.
