More than 60 people including children have died in the fire broken out in Zimnaya Vishnya (The Winter Cherry) shopping center. 16 people more are gone missing, RIA Novosti informs. Many children came to the shopping center to celebrate the beginning of vacations the day before.
According to one of the investigation versions, the tragedy happened due to the children playing with fire. At this, the shopping center have not been inspected against the fire precautions for a long time as this is a small-scale business.
Kuzbass Vice-Governor Vladimir Chernov has advised that funerals of the dead will be financed from the regional budget. Gospozharnadzor made a decision to conduct unscheduled fire safety briefings with employees of the largest trade centers.
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of the dead and wished speedy recovery to the injured. Press-Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Peskov has advised that in the course of the investigation started by the shopping center's administration, Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov and Governor of the Kemerovo Region Aman Tuleyev have reported that 25 eye-witnesses and victims were interrogated.
Many foreign countries have reacted on this tragic event. European Council Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland has stated that he was sincerely shocked at the news from Kemerovo and could not imagine the feelings of people involved in the tragedy.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu posted on his Twitter account his condolences to those who lost their relatives in the fire.
Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has mentioned that this is an awful tragedy because many children died in this accident. He wished speedy recovery to the injured and patience to the families of the dead.
Deputy from Kazakhstan Kasym Zhomart Tokayev has also expressed his condolences due to the deaths of people in Kemerovo and noted that this event is another proof that crowded places require special attention in terms of the fire safety.
