Russian figure skaters won one gold and one silver medal at the 2018 World Figure Skating Championships that have just concluded in Milan, Italy, TASS informs.

Russian figure skaters Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov won gold in the pairs skating. In the free skating program Mikhail Kolyada has become the bronze medalist first time in the last seven years. Dmitry Aliev took the seventh place.

For the first time in five years, there are no Russian winners in the women's figure skating short programme. Olympic silver medallist Evgenia Medvedeva had withdrawn with a recurrence of the foot injury. The Olympic champion Alina Zagitova fell three times and was able to climb up to the fifth position only. Another Russian, Maria Sotskova kept the eighth position.

Kaetlyn Osmond won figure skating worlds becoming the first Canadian champion in 45 years.

15 years old Zagitova didn't win the Adult figure skating tournament for the first time. According to her coach, at the training she didn't make even one mistake. The coach was sure that she was just too tired.

Mikhail Kolyada and Dmitry Aliev's results gave Russia chance to bring three athletes for the second round, which is the maximum quota.
