Reading Gorky project started in Nizhny Novgorod. It was initiated by the local department of Vesti News Channel.

Note that this year is the 150th anniversary of Maxim Gorky’s birth. The jubilee will be marked widely in Russia and abroad. The anniversary is included into the list of UNESCO memorable dates. Lots of scientific forums and exhibitions are planned for this day.

Local journalists have joint the celebrations. As a part of the project, well-known people, figures of culture, local administration representatives, businessmen, public activists and other citizens of Nizhny Novgorod are going to read out passages from Gorky’s books. The first reader will be Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin.

Journalists believe that all participants read books of Gorky in a different way; however they are all tied with the mutual interest to his legacy.

Reading Gorky videos will be transmitted at various radio stations and TV channels during hours of local broadcasts.

Three museums in Nizhny Novgorod region have been renovated as a part of preparation programme for the 150th anniversary of the outstanding Russian writer, such as Gorky Literature Museum, The House - Museum of Maxim Gorky and Kashirin House. 150 000 US dollars was budgeted for the renovation purposes. The festive agenda includes about 50 events, interactive programmes, placement of tourist navigation signs and rare editions of Gorky in a digital format.

As per the Russkiy Mir Foundation, the Gorky Museum develops a specialized project Around Ancient Rus with Maxim Gorky to coincide with the jubilee. The project is about working out a museum-tourist route through cities related to life and literary legacy of the Mother novel and At the Bottom play’s author.
