Miklukho-Maklay to pass household items of Papua New Guinea indigenous tribes

07.03.2018

Kuntskamera collection dedicated to the famous Russian ethnographer and traveler Nikolay Miklukho-Maklay will be replenished by 14 household and sacral items delivered from Papua New Guinea by the expedition headed by the scientist bearing the same name as the greatest ethnographer, as per the website of the Miklukho-Maklay Foundation of Preservation of Ethno-cultural Heritage.

As per the Russkiy Mir Foundation, the scientific-research expedition named Miklukho-Maklay 21st century. The Bank of Maklay repeated the route of the famous Russian scientist. Modern researchers and documentary photographers took part in the expedition. The task of the expedition was to investigate cultural development, everyday routine and traditions of tribes inhabiting the bank of Maklay (the coastline of Papua New Guinea).

The expedition results derived by the researchers are to come out soon. However, it is already clear that lifestyle and culture of the Papuans have not undergone any changes for almost one and a half century. The household items and sacred objects from the Madang region attest this conclusion.
