Russian Ballet Icons Gala in London dedicated to Marius Petipa

Russian Ballet Icons Gala concert was held on February 25 in London. The Gala has been conducted for already 30 years becoming a prominent event of the cultural life of London. This year the concert was dedicated to Marius Petipa’s anniversary, TASS reports. 11 of March is 200th birth anniversary of the grand choreographer and founder of the Russian ballet school.

Passages of his stagings, which later became the world’s classics, were included into the gala bill. The most famous ballet stars performed at the stage of London Coliseum theatre, including star dancers of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatres as well as performers from Paris, Madrid, Rome, Berlin, Dresden, Milan and Neapoli. They played parts from Koppeliya, Zhizel, The Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Corsaire. Stagings of modern ballet-masters added filled up the gala agenda, such as Yuri Grigorovich, Nacho Duato, Rolan Petit and others.

Moreover, the British admirers of choreography had a chance to get acquainted with new stagings. The dancers from Saint Petersburg Mariinsky theatre performed a passage from a new staging of Ilya Zhivago A Flashback. The world premiere of The Light Knight ballet took place that evening. The full version of the theatre performance dedicated to Nikolay Roerih will be released only a season later.
