The statements of Poland that Russia can take all monuments to the Red Army set in this country are considered a provocation, according to the claim made by the Russian Ambassador in Warsaw Sergei Andreev after the ceremony of laying wreaths in Penezhno at the place of wounding the Soviet General Ivan Chernyakhovsky, TASS reports.

“From time to time we are offered to take our monuments to Russia. Say, if they are so dear to you, you can take them to Russia. We consider this statement a provocation,” the diplomat claimed. He has mentioned that the monuments should stay on the places of important historical events where people died. Andreev has stressed out that moving monuments to Russia means losing their meaning. That is the reason why Russia is sure that the memorials should stay as are.

Diplomat has underlined that the monuments to soldiers who died liberating Poland have nothing to do with communism propaganda – the memorials praise 600 000 heroes who gave their lives to save the Polish people from dying.

Soviet WW2 General Ivan Chernyakovsky was deadly wounded during the fights for liberating of the Polish city of Penenzhno. Participants of the ceremony laid flowers on the place where the monument to the general used to be erected.

Note that two and a half years ago, local authorities destroyed the memorial. As per the Russian Ambassador in Warsaw Sergei Andreev, despite the monument is dismantled, the significance of this place is still great. He expressed hope that the ceremony in honor of the general who died for freedom of Poland will be held on this place as before.
