Patriarch Kirill promises support to Christians in Syria

Russian Orthodox Church continues rendering humanitarian aid to the civil population in Syria, Patriarch Kirill assured. He made this statement during his meeting with King of Jordan Abdulla II held on February 15 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, RIA Novosti reports.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has mentioned that representatives of other confessions took part in this mission as well. In his point of view, currently the restitution of Syria and Iraq is number one priority. Russian Church has many times arranged humanitarian campaigns during the armed conflict in Syria. As in Russia there are good relations between the Orthodox Christians, Muslims and Jews, the aid will be collective.

Patriarch Kirill has assured that such alliance is very trustworthy as it considerably broadens opportunities of supporting population.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has stated that terrorism has not been fully defeated yet, but the hardest times have passed. Now, in his opinion, there is a lot to be done for the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Note that at the beginning of this month, delegation of interreligious target group of the Russian Presidential Council for Interaction with religious organizations brought humanitarian aid to Syria gathered by the Russian believers. Secretary for inter-Christian affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov) explains that the campaign can be called unprecedented by the scale of rendered assistance, by composition of the delegation and by degree of its coordination with local religious communities.
