Rewriting history by the country’s authorities caused annihilation of monuments to the Soviet soldiers in Poland, according to the former Prime Minister of Poland Leszek Miller. In his opinion, Warsaw is adherent to the version that the German occupation in Poland changed for the Soviet occupation, TASS reports. The Polish politician has expressed regrets that the heroic liberators of Poland turned into victims of the contemporary political environment.

“That is a part of common historical politics which causes the current history revision, especially the history of WWII”, Miller added.

He is sure that such actions will bring only short-term benefits for the country’s authorities. Ex-Premier is assured that it is impossible to conceal the historical truth forever and it will be revealed sooner or later.

Besides, Poland is trying to forget the Polish soldiers who were assaulting Berlin together with the Red Army. Miller has underlined that the Polish soldiers were the only ones apart from the Soviet soldiers who took part in this victorious operation. The flags of Poland were raised in the Fascist Germany together with the Soviet flags. The Politician has sorrowfully added that his country is trying to forget these facts as they contradict the official version that Poland was liberated from the occupation only by the end of 20th century.

Note that the law about pulling down the Soviet monuments came into force in Poland on 21 October. It concerns almost 250 memorials. Symbols of the Red Army are also under threat and “should be taken away from the society”. This law concerns the war graves as well. The Hammer and Sickle images and portraits of Josef Stalin will be taken away. At this, the five-pointed star symbolizing the Red Army will remain.
