February 8th marks the Day of Russian Science. Events popularizing scientific knowledge and granting outstanding scientists are planned for today. Russian President Vladimir Putin visits today one of the best science centers in Russia located in Novosibirsk, TASS reports.

Vladimir Putin to participate in meeting of Siberian department at the Russian Academy of Science in its Science Campus. Putin will conduct a Science and Education board meeting and award best scientists for thier work in 2017.

February 8 was set as the Day of Russian Science was in 1999 in accordance with Presidential Decree. February 8, 1724 Peter the Great gave order to establish Academy of Sciences. In 1925 this instittution was renamed as USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1991 - Russian Academy of Sciences.
