Russians living currently in Latvia will get legal support from a new entity called the Russian House, which is to be opened in Riga, Izvestia newspaper reports. According to the President of the Latvian Alliance against Nazism Janis Kuzins, the Russian House will deal with legal consulting, language courses, cultural events and entertainment activities.
The legal advisor has explained that the documents are ready and the Russian House will be registered already next month. At the beginning, the initiators will invest into their project themselves.

Janis Kuzins is sure that the majority of people are in need for such a center. He has reminded that the Baltic Republic has a large Russian-speaking community. People planning to move to Russia will apply to the Russian House to get a Russian passport. Besides, entertainment campaigns arranged by the House will raise interest to Russian culture and language. Everybody is welcome to attend preparation courses, especially those who want to continue their education at Russian universities.

The social activist has explained that there are around twenty people in the activists’ group, among them are lawyers, historians, human rights defenders. He expressed hope that the perspective is to broaden the Russian House and turn it into a link between Russia and our compatriots living in Latvia.

Russian parliament has approved the idea having noted that establishment of such institutions is extremely important and plans for opening similar entities are negotiated in other countries too.
At present, House of Moscow exists in Riga, its activities are directed at establishment and further development of good neighborly relations between the capital cities of Latvia and Russia. The Russkiy Mir Foundation inaugurated the Russian Center in the Baltic International Academy in 2009. Over the time of its work, contacts with Russian social organizations in Latvia have been set, vectors of activities aimed at popularization of the Russian language have been defined, the Russian culture and history abroad have been worked out. Traditionally, the Russian Center conducts humanitarian seminars with participation of well-known teachers from Russia.
