Citizens of the city of Olsztyn, Poland, and the nearby village of Kezlin voted against pulling down the monuments to the Red Army officers. The poll was held during recording a TV coverage about situation with monuments to the Soviet warriors in Poland. The head of Kursk organization Jerzy Tyc wrote on the Facebook page about this.
According to Jerzy Tyc, citizens of the populated areas are positive about preservation of monuments located in their vicinities and do not support the politics of rewriting the history pages. Common people emphasize that monuments are called for eternalizing the historical events and involvement of political issues would be harmful for a large social community.
As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, on 22nd of June 2017, the Polish Parliament approved amendments to the law on decommunization, which implies pulling down hundreds of monuments allegedly praising the Soviet regime. All monuments will be pulled down within a year. Overall, there are one and a half thousand memorials; about a half of them is dedicated to the Red Army.
Polish organization Kursk is dealing with restoration of graves and monuments to the Soviet soldiers on charity grounds. Despite the society was founded only in 2012, a lot has been done. Almost forty memorials around Poland have been restored by means of the organization.
