Russian war drama Sobibor screened in Bundestag

kinopoisk.ruRussian war drama Sobibor was screened in Bundestag to mark the date of the only successful uprising in a Nazi death camp, RIA Novosti informs. The film is directed by and starring Konstantin Khabensky.

Let us remember, in the end of January Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Russian Vladimir Putin saw together the film fragments. They have also visited “Sobibor: Victorious over Death” exhibition at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow.

During the revolt In October14, 1943, Sobibor camp inmates led by the Red Army lieutenant Alexander Pechersky made the only successful uprising in a Nazi death camp. More than 300 prisoners ran away. Half of them were killed by Nazi, around 90 persons had been victims of local Polish collaborationists. In all, around 250,000 people were murdered at Sobibór. Shortly after the uprising, the Germans tried to conceal the camp planting it over with pine trees. There is a Sobibór Museum at the site of ex-camp now with pyramid of ashes and crushed bones of the camp victims.

It's worth mentioning, the last revolt survivor Arkady Vaispapir departed this life in January 2018.
