Russians: The Battle of Stalingrad was WW2 milestone

Georgy Zelma/wikimedia.orgMajority of Russians firmly believe that the Battle of Stalingrad was a turning point of the Second World War, according to the poll conducted by All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research.

Fifty percent of respondents are sure that the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad played a decisive role in the war outcome.

One of the most important events is breakthrough of the Leningrad siege. Almost fifty percent of respondents mentioned it. 43 percent of Russians named the battle of Kursk. The same amount of respondents marked the battle of Moscow.

In accordance with the social poll results, landmarks of the Soviet people’s deed are Leningrad (Saint Petersburg), Stalingrad (Volgograd), the Brest Fortress, Moscow and Sevastopol.

Children and teenagers should visit these places to perceive the grandness and the tragedy of the war deeds.

Almost seventy percent of Russians note that the Stalingrad Battle should be studied more closely at history lessons in school. Tours for children and adults should be organized there.
