Peskov: Washington tries to influence presidential elections in Russia

29.01.2018

The Presidential Administration of RussiaWashington is trying to influence presidential elections in Russia with the so-called Kremlin report, according to the Presidential Press Secretary Dmitri Peskov. At this, the Russian leader’s representative is sure that this is a futile attempt, TASS informs.

He has emphasized that this is a direct and naked attempt to time some actions with Russian presidential elections.

The White House plans to present the Kremlin report to the American congressmen. This was the name given by US administration to the list of Russian top officials, political figures and businessmen with indication of their connections with Russian authorities. This document is expected to lay a foundation for new anti-Russian sanctions.

Dmitri Peskov has noted that the document itself does not mean anything. Its publication is not escalation of sanctions. He has added that we need to see what actions follow this presentation. Then a corresponding decision will be taken to secure interests of our country and national business, he explained.

Note that names of more than twenty citizens of Russia and Ukraine as well as twenty-one countries were included into the American sanctions’ list last week. The restrictions concerned senior Russian officials and representatives of unacknowledged Donbass People’s Republic. US have stated that sanctions are applied to those who are trying to infringe Minsk agreements.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, at the beginning of last August, Donald Trump signed a bill about introduction of new package of anti-Russian sanctions, approved earlier by US Congress. It, in fact, prohibits crediting Russian banks by US financial structures and collaboration of American companies with Russia on the Northern Flow-2 project.
