Academy of Classical singing in Havana n/a Mariana de Gonich celebrates 10 years

Flickr/Pedro SzekelyAcademy of Classical singing in Havana celebrates 10 years, TASS reports. It is named after Russian opera singer Mariana de Gonich (Marianna Yustitskaya). Now the academy is headed by one of her students Hugo Osle.

Russian Ambassador Mikhail Kamunin and some famous musician. Diplomat has presented Honorary diploma for active participation in Academy's life to workers of culture and arts. One of diplomas went to the member of Coordinating Counsel of Russian Compatriots Abroad Tatiana Maksimenkova She has put on stage all Russian repertoire of the Academia. The head of Russian mission thanked academy for preserving memory of our compatriot Mariana de Gonich.

Academy students have performed several Russian songs at the concert. They almost don't speak Russian but sing Kalinka, Moscow Nights and Ochi Tchornya without accent.


Opera singer Mariana de Gonich (Yustitskaya) was born in Saint Petersburg in 1900. She was performing in the most famous stages of Europe at the first part of 20th century. She's singing with Fedor Shalyapin as well. Marianna moved to Cuba in 1940. She was performing and teaching singing there for another fifty years.
