Foreign Ministry of Finland: We do not enter NATO as we are not afraid of Russia

pixabay.com    Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini has claimed that the country is not going to enter NATO, as it is not afraid of Russia. He has added that Russia is aware of such an attitude and respects it in full, according to RIA Novosti.

Soini has emphasized that today’s events in Russia do not influence politics of Finland in any way. Besides, Timo Soini has commented the situation about establishing a unified European army. In his opinion, this army is pointless it is to become an analogue of present NATO.

There was a question why Helsinki is not a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Soini has flatly stated that countries entering NATO are afraid of Russia and those who would like to keep good relations with our country believe that there is no point in that.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin has noted a high level of Russian-Finnish relations at the end of talks with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niiniste.
