09.01.2018

The first batch of Russian gas from Yamal LNG is to be delivered to US, RIA Novosti newspaper informs.

According to the newspaper the Gaselys tanker carrying liquefied natural gas belonging to the French companie Engie is heading from the British port Isle of Grain to the American terminal Everett located near Boston. According to the newspaper's source among the traders, the Gaselys is carrying Russian gas.

The tanker went for loading to the British port immediately after the tanker Christophe de Margerie unloaded the first batch of Russian LNG there at the end of December.

Gaselys is to arrive to US on January 22. This deal was made due to an extraordinary increase in gas price in the East Coast of US, up to 6.3 thousand dollars for a thousand cubic meters. Such increase is caused by extreme weather conditions including a snowstorm.

First, Novatek, the shareholder of Yamal LNG planned to send the first batch of LNG to the Asian market. The Chinese CNPC was among possible customers. Then the company’s head Leonid Mihelson said that the batch would go to the company’s subsidiary Novatek Gas & Power. Later it was reported to go to the Malaysian Petronas.

The fact that Engie finally purchased the batch is explained by the fact that it has a reserve of 6.9 bln cubic meters of gas for de-liquefaction in the Everett terminal.
