If a woman is in the situation when she hasn’t had an abortion but is unable to bring up the child, such children should be given to us (Russian Orthodox Church) without depriving the woman of her maternal rights, he said.

He stressed that it shouldn’t be compared to an orphanage, because the woman can come anytime and take her child home.

The representative of Synodal Department for charity the bishop of Orehkovo-Zuevo Panteleimon mentioned that there are some family support centers in several monasteries already working. The children whose parents turned out to be unprepared or incapable to bring them up are housed there.

A charity center for pregnant women, women in need or families with many children is created by the Mercy Orthodox service (Milosedie) . Here one can get clothes for women and children, diapers, baby carts, cradles and toys. There are 126 such centers in Russia today, another 30 are to appear by mid-2018.
