The Russian top model Sasha Pivovarova has become the face of the women’s collection for Dior fashion house as reported by Fashion Network, according to Lenta.ru.
The collection is inspired by the works of 1960s French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, so Pivovarova poses with a brush in hand pretending to draw the artist’s paintings. In the photographs the model is wearing a cap with a little veil, denim culottes and a Britain striped shirt saying Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists. Next to her there is a shopper bag with the fashion house’s logo.
The author of the advertising campaign photographs is Patrick Demarchelier.
Niki de Saint Phalle is a French theater artist and a sculptor and a representative of the New Realism. She grew up in the US, started her career as a model, worked for Vogue and other fashion magazines. She is famous for her brightly colored sculptures made of polystirol resembling naïve art. The wife and co-author of the French sculptor Jean Tinguely. One of their most famous works is the Stravinski fountain in Paris. As a theater artist she worked with the choreograph Roland Petit.
Sasha Pivovarova has previously taken part in an advertising video for the Japanese cosmetics brand Shiseido directed by the British director Barnaby Roper. The model wearing simple clothes and a Japanese hairdo performed a modern dance, which is supposed to convey the spirit of the skin care products.
