History of Russia is the main topic of an exposition in Icon Museum in Frankfurt-on-Maine, IA Interfax reports. The exhibition organized by Ekaterino-Sergievsky Educational and Eharitable society depicts the role of Hessen Princesses in Russian History.

Four women belonging to Hessen-Darmstadt dukedom became leading characters on the exposition, including two Grand Duchess: Natalia Alekseevna, the spouse of Tsarevich Paul who later ascended the throne as Pavel the First, and Elizaveta Fedorovna, the wife of Grand Duke Sergei Romanov.

There are two empresses portrayed at the exhibition, Maria Aleksandrovna the wife of Aleksander II, and Aleksandra Fedorovna, the wife of Nikolai II.

Personal belongings, portraits, documents were brought from major Russian museums, national state archives, private collections. Many of the showpieces are presented for the first time. Almost 30 countries participated in a preparation of this exhibit.

The head of the Russian Embassy in Berlin Vladimir Gridin has underlined that this exhibition is very actual especially now, during complications of the political situation. It is important to search for more common points of interest since there are many common topics in the cultural field, the diplomat added.
