18.12.2017

Flickr/ NASA JohnsonRussian cosmonauts on the orbit in March 2018 will be able to vote at Presidential elections too, TASS informs.

According to Anton Shkaplerov who is to head the next crew of International Space Station, the voting will be arranged right in the space. He has reminded that it will be the second voting on the orbit for him.

He was at International Space Station during last Presidential Elections in 2012. The representatives of the election committee came to Flight Control Center to explain to cosmonauts details of the voting procedure. The secure connection was installed specially for this purpose. Then cosmonauts were offered to vote for their favorite candidate. After that, representatives of the election committee checked the box against the name of the chosen candidate in the voting paper. Then voting papers were locked into a special case and sent to the election committee.

Scott Tingle (USA) and Norishige Kanai (Japan) will fly to space together with Shkaplerov. The space ship launch is scheduled for December 17.

It is worth reminding that Presidential elections will be held on March 18 in Russia. The corresponding resolution of the Federation Council is to be published at the beginning of next week. The election campaign will start from this day on. Currently, twenty-three people claimed their intention to run for the President’s office. This is not a final figure and it will be corrected in the nearest future.
