Russian athletes ready to compete under a neutral flag

pixabay.comRussian athletes agreed to compete under neutral flag at the Winter Olympics in 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, claimed the chair of Russian Olympic Committee's athletes' commission Sofiya Velikaya, TASS reports. The final decision on the case of their participation to be taken tomorrow.

Sofiya Velikaya has noted that athletes continue training and are going to perform if IOC will issue an official invitation.

It is planned that the letter in the name of Russian athletes that are going to perform under a neutral flag to be discussed at the Olympic Committee meeting tomorrow.

Let us remember, the International Olympic Committee announced its unprecedented decision that Russian national team was banned from participating in the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. A specialized committee was established for making decisions about allowance of individual sportsmen to participate in the Olympic Games in South Korea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia will not boycott the participation of Russian sportsmen under the Olympic flag in the forthcoming Olympic Games. Ha has also claimed that athletes, provided they are allowed to take part in the Games, will get necessary support.
