pixabay.comRussia is deeply concerned about the decision of American leader to acknowledge Jerusalem as a capital of Israel, RIA Novosti informs. This was the comment from Russian Foreign Ministry to the statement of Donald Trump about acknowledgement of Jerusalem as a capital of Israel.

Russian Embassy has reminded that Moscow considers eastern Jerusalem a capital of Israel, and western Jerusalem a capital of Palestine. Eventually, negotiations between the two countries should resolve the conflict based on the principle of the two states – Israel and Palestine, living in peace and neighborly cooperation.

This is the principle supported by the Russian Federation, which also agrees with all resolutions of UN Security Council, General Assembly and Arab Peace Initiative.

Russian Parliament sees this initiative of Washington as another reason for a conflict in troubled zone of Israeli – Palestinian conflict. According to the head of the State Duma Committee for International Affairs Leonid Slutsky, Trump’s decision continues a series of provocations in external politics of the US. Decision of Trump about acknowledgement of Jerusalem as a capital of Israel and placing US Embassy in this city continues a chain of provocations in the external politics of the US, which we are watching all th time, in particular, related to Syria, Iran and China, Slutsky said.

Senator Alexey Pushkov agrees with this opinion. Federation Council member has emphasized that Trump has lit another wick of the old barrel full of gun-power.
Israel calls Jerusalem its only and impartible capital including its eastern regions and historical center, which were taken over fifty years ago from Jordan and annexed later.
International community does not acknowledge the annexation and considers the status of the city as one of the key issues of the Middle Eastern conflict, which should be resolved based on the agreements with Palestine residents claiming their rights for the eastern part of Jerusalem. This conflict is the reason why all Embassies including US Embassy are located in Tel-Aviv.
