Russian MFA to create group for protection of compatriots’ rights abroad

04.12.2017

Alvesgaspar/wikimedia.orgFederal Foreign Department is founding a target group working out recommendations directed at protection of Russians abroad. The corresponding decree was issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin website reports. It was included into the list of other decrees following the results of the meeting of the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights.

The international work group is to include representatives of non-commercial organizations. The decree should be fulfilled until the end of next March.

It is worth reminding that earlier the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that methods and approaches to protection of compatriots’ rights should be improved. In the context of ongoing discrimination towards our compatriots in the Baltic States and Ukraine primarily, approaches to protection of their political, civil and ethno-cultural rights should be improved, the minister claimed.

Besides, the Russian Foreign Minister has stated that more efforts should be put to protect Russian language and preserve Russian cultural heritage and historical memory. Lavrov has underlined that all possible ways should be used to reach these goals.
