Russian restorers to show new technologies to Syrian colleagues

© Russian Foreign Ministry  Russia is to help Syria restore ancient monuments destroyed by terrorists, TASS informs. The State Hermitage’s director Mikhail Piotrovsky promised to share technologies of working over monuments with his colleagues from Syria.

In accordance with his words, the museum is going to organize the Hermitage Days in Damascus. The Russian experts are to select specialists who will set off to Saint Petersburg. They will get trained to handle items requiring restoration in Syria.

Mikhail Piotrovsky has emphasized that the museum is strictly following UNESCO agreement. Besides, an agreement with Syrian antiquity department will soon be signed.

Restoration of museums has great significance, as the museums will become centers of life, the head of one of the most famous museum believes.

It is worth reminding that the State Hermitage’s director has offered to establish a special committee coordinating restoration works. The committee could include archaeologists dealing with studying of the liberated city of Palmyra. The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation could undertake the role of a committee founder.

Moreover, earlier Syria got an ancient city 3D model, which was designed after an expedition of experts from the Hermitage and the Institute for the History of Material Culture of Russian Academy of Sciences.
