It is noteworthy that the department was placed in Karelia when Finnish Orthodox Church was managed by Moscow Patriarchy, but after WWII these territories became property of USSR and the senior religious management moved Archbishopric eparchy to Kuolio city at the Kallavesi lake.

The department will be moved to Helsinki at the beginning of March 2018, when Metropolitan Amvrosy will retire. The Finnish Orthodox Church Archbishop Leo Makkonen will be appointed Archbishop of Helsinki and All Finland.

The Orthodox congregation of Finland reaches around sixty thousand people at present and occupies the third place after Evangelic Lutherans and Muslims.
