Country Estate dated I century AD discovered in Kerch

Larisa Scherbula Archaeologists working near Kerch found a country estate, TASS informs. Scientists believe that it was built during the 1st century AD. It was the time when Bosporan Kingdom located at the territory of Western Crimea, the Tamansky Peninsula and lower lands of Don was going through the period of prosperity after several wars.

According to the head of expedition Sergei Volkov, the estate is very typical of that epoch. A family of average landowner or farmer lived there. Historians did not find any precious items brought from foreign lands, jewels or coins. They discovered just kitchen utensils, working tools and decorations and children’s toys – ancient Barbie dolls made of terracotta with suspended arms and legs.

The estate is situated near settlement Gorodische 11 km. Scientists have known its location long time before, but it was the first excavation works on that territory.

Besides, archaeologists found a staying of middle bronze period: parts of clay utensils, remains of stone tools, fragments of constructions, burial sites and several anthropomorphical pillars.

Archaeologists are leading researches at the place of future Tavrida highway.
