16.11.2017

Russian President AdministrationRussian President Vladimir has discussed prisoners’ exchange with heads of unrecognized Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples’ Republics Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitsky, RIA Novosti reports. As per the Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, they talked about a proposal by Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of Ukrainian Choice – People’s Right public movement.

Medvedchuk has shared his initiative at the meeting with Putin. According to him, Kiev is ready to set free up to three hundred people. The Ukrainian authorities expect Donbass leaders to free up to seventy captives.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with leaders of Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic. Vladimir Putin has mentioned that he approved of the initiative of Medvedchuk. In their turn, Zakharchenko and Plotnitsky have also supported it, reminding that this question should be discussed with Kiev, first of all.

Donetsk People’s Republic leader Alexander Zakharchenko has agreed with the position of Russian President about captive prisoners’ exchange. He is sure that this question should be settled with principles of humanism. Zakhachenko has reminded that Donetsk People’s Republic has always been very human towards Ukrainian captives. However, judging by condition of the prisoners provided by Kiev, Ukraine might be torturing them and refusing medical aid.

Dmitry Peskov has underlined that negotiations of Vladimir Putin and leaders of self-proclaimed republics have been held for the first time.
