Russian MFA: preserving historical heritage of Russians abroad is essential

Russian Foreign MinistryRussia has to put more effort in preserving its historical heritage located outside the country, according to the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department for communication with fellow-countrymen abroad, Oleg Malginov, TASS reports.
Let us remember, the diplomat took part in a historical forum on Kauai Island, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Fort Elizabeth. The Fort was built by sailors of Russian-American company; it was named in honor of the wife of the Russian Emperor Alexander I.

"Conservation and care of heritage left by Russians settlers outside our country in different centuries is very important. Theese monuments of history linked to Russia confirm our long-term connections with US, this fact is very significant only for Russia but for US as well" Malginov said.

He has also recalled that at the beginning of the 20th century, right after Russian Revolution, many compatriots were forced to leave Russia. “Keeping” their culture they have created new Russian World abroad. Diplomat called on exploring and thoroughly studying this culture making it accessible for future generations.

The wide range of questions was carried out covering Russian patrimony in Hawaii. The Twinning between cities of our two countries and cooperation in different fields were also discussed.
