Rachmaninov's The All-Night Vigil played for the first time in Australia

13.11.2017

Facebook/Sava DjukicRussian spiritual music was played in the Melbourne St.Basil's Cathedral, The Unification newspaper reports. The Men Capella of Nikolay Koval performed Rachmaninov's The All-Night Vigil in front of 250 Russian-speaking and English-speaking Australians.

Apart of Rachmaninov's music, chants from Valaam Monastery and early Russian polyphony music were presented. Beautiful performance in conjunction with great church acoustics have produced an awesome impression on the audience.

There are about 30 singers in the Capella. The choir director Nikolay Koval has noted that it's not easy to gather everybody because all participants have main jobs. Although the choir gives concerts only twice a year it has invested time and effort to dedicate one of the previous programs to the memory of deceased Alexandrov Ensemble's musicians.
