Peskov: Meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump derailed by Americans

13.11.2017

Russian Defense Ministry Washington proposed venues and time of the meeting between Russian and US Presidents which suited only their side. At this, offers by Russian diplomats were not taken into account, according to Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.

He has specified that an official meeting between the two heads of state did not take place because both countries could not match their schedules. Peskov has added that US wanted to organize a bilateral meeting in Vietnam, but proposed a variant matching their schedule only. Besides, the White House wanted negotiations to be held at the US rented premises.

Dmitry Peskov has explained that there is an old tradition when top-level meetings were organized at the territory of each county in turns. At this, the first meeting of Putin and Trump in Germany took place at the American territory.

It is worth reminding that leaders of two counties met at APEC summit. Presidents of Russia and United States of America have made a mutual statement about political solution of the military conflict in Syria in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and Geneva process.

Following the results of their meeting on the sidelines, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have also agreed to support military liaisons. In their opinion, this would help avoiding various incidents with participation of those who wage war with Islamic State banned in Russia.
