Russian soldiers' memory honoured in Paris

Thomon CC BY-SA 4.0//wikimedia.orgMemorial ceremony honouring Russian soldiers who died one century ago in France during the First World War took place in Paris, RIA Novosti reports. The ceremony took place at the Russian expeditionary corps.

High-rank French servicemen, Russian diplomats, Russian compatriots and their kids have laid flowers and wreaths to the monument. The head of Russian Embassy in France Aleksey Meshkov is sure that Russian expeditionary corps “has founded Russian-French brotherhood-in-arms.” The Ambassador has reminded that this brotherhood has become stronger during World War 2.

50,000 soldiers of the Russian Army division were sent by Tsar Nikolay II in order to help France defending from German army 99 years ago. Russian devision was called the “legion of honour” for the heroism in action. Meshkov has stressed it is important to remember this memory nowadays.

Let us remember, there are four memorials dedicated to Russian expeditionary corps in France. Another memorial to be raised soon at Le Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France.
