Among those who participated in the ceremony were Russian diplomats, Russian compatriots, Egypt tour operators and city authorities including the Governor of South Sinai province Khaled Forda.

Also, the first stone to be laid for the future Russia-Egypt friendship memorial that will be located on the territory of Domina hotel resort in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Let us remember, 224 people died in the horrible accident. There were no survivors. It was the biggest tragedy in the history of the Russian and Soviet aviation. After this tragedy the flights of the Russian airplanes to Egypt were suspended. The International Investigation Commission came to conclusion that it was an act of terrorism.

It is worth mentioning that the memorial dedicated to the victims of the catastrophe was opened last week in Saint Petersburg.
