Let us remind, Russian helicopter crashed in the North Sea near archipelagos Spitsbergen. As per the rescue service, there were eight people on board. The accident happened within several kilometers from Barentsburg village.

Presumably, the helicopter was making a flight from Russian village Piramida to Barentsburg. It was detected by radars before half past three in the evening local time or 16:35 Moscow time and then was gone.

Local mass media advised that two rescue vessels and a helicopter were sent to the supposed accident site.

According to MES representative Petr Kambur, the search is difficult enough due to strong current, cold waters and the bed weather. The rescuing works are conducted from air, water and shore. He has also marked that special deepwater rescue force is ready to travel to the place of the accident immediately. A hot line has started working for the relatives of the vanished helicopter's crew.

The Norway rescue services commented that some witnesses have heard the sound of the helicopter's motor brought to a sudden stop.

Spitsbergen is administratively a part of Norway with a special legal status. Russian village Barentsburg is a Russian village populated by mineworkers mostly.
