Ladies heading for space

NPP ZvezdaA larger number of women are tending to make a space flight. Y. Gagarin Space Research and Test Cosmonaut Center has advised that this draft has much more applications from women that the previous one, TASS reports.

A number of candidates to cosmonauts from aerospace industry is also increasing. At present, it is already a quarter from the total number of all requests. It was just sixteen percent of people from aerospace industry previously.

It should be reminded that a week about four hundred applications came to Y. Gagarin Space Research and Test Cosmonaut Center ago from people desiring to make first space flights on a new Federation space ship to International Space Station and to the Moon.

The previous draft enlisted a bit more than three hundred applications, whereas only eight of people were selected. The requirements became stricter this year. Now the candidates should have flight training as well as technical degree and profiled work experience exceeding three years.

This is already 17th draft to cosmonauts, the last one was conducted in 2012 and it was open to public for the first time in history – everybody could send an application form.
