beringia.ruIn the footsteps of well-known discoverer Vitus Bering tour lies through the territory of almost thirty Russian regions, IA Interfax advises. According to the initiator of this large-scale project Ildar Mamatov, By Routes of the Great Northern Expedition, they planned to follow the way of 18th century explorers.

The starting point of modern explorers was Saint Petersburg. It is a known fact that Bering and his academic team visited Kolyvan and Biysk ostrog during their Kamchatka expeditions. Bering never visited Altai Region. Following the results of this expedition, Peter the Great ordered to draw a map of the Russian Empire.

Expedition participants managed to overcome only a half of the route this season, next year they plan a car race at all the length of the route. First tourists will try to cover the route in 2019.

This expedition is already seventh on the Russian territory as a part of the global route. The explorers took nine days to travel around the Western Siberia.

It is to become the longest route for our country and the world. It is to stretch from St. Petersburg until Bering Island, from France to Alaska. Six countries are to be explored: Russia, Germany, Denmark, Kazakhstan, USA and Japan.
