Pushkin in Britain poetry festival comes to London

FacebookInternational Pushkin in Britain poetry festival starts today in London, TASS reports. 15 poets take part in this event. Tomorrow's tournament of poets from Russian community abroad will become the highlight of this event. The tournament to take place in English Anglican church St. Martin-in-the-Fields located at the north-east corner of Trafalgar Square in London.

According to the rules of the tournament its participants have to write poems based on one of the lines from Pushkin poem. The festival organizer Oleg Borushko has shared that while choosing particular poem he always look for something connected with England, but this time he chose October 19th poem dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the first graduation course of the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo where young poet also studied. The line “We are the same: in worlds - we're outlaws” was the main topic this time.During the first tour poets had to comnpose the poem using Pushkin's line for beginning. On the second tour contestants will recite two own poems. Apart of jury headed by Oleg Borushko, there's an independed people's jury where not only Russian but native British citizens participate as well.

The festival will conclude with another poetry contest named Above Barriers in Cambrige University.

Pushkin in Britain poetry festival is conducted with support of Russian Embassy in Great Britain. Its winner will participate in the biggest in Asia Jaipur Literature Festival.
