rus-arc.ruRussian scientists have discovered a new island in the Arctic Region, IA Interfax informs. The discovery was made during the expedition of Senezh hydrographic survey vessel to the banks of the Vize, Ushakov, Schmidt Islands and the Severny Island of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

As representatives of the Northern Fleet have explained, scientists discovered a few objects having emerged after the deglaciation. During the expedition, two capes and an island out of Chaev glacier were discovered.
The length of the island is about one and a half km; it does not exceed two hundred and fifty meters in its widest place. The length of its coastline is around two kilometers.

Senezh vessel has completed its mission at the sea. The scientists have started the research activities at the end of summer and were involved in the research of the white spots in the Karsk Sea and the Laptev Sea for all of this time.

It is worth reminding that a new island was discovered in the Laptev Sea several years ago. It was called YaYa.
