Mass Media role in resetting relations between Russia and Europe discussed in Budapest

Facebook page of Svetlana Keller6th International Conference Russia and Europe: Topical Issues of Contemporary International Journalism has started on October 5 in Budapest. The conference is organized by International life magazine with support of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications.

Russian and foreign media experts are taking part in the conference together with representatives of public organizations from Greece, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Check Republic, France and Switzerland. The main goals of the conference are to define tasks for contemporary mass media in leading a peaceful dialogue on different levels and to discuss modern technologies of spreading trustworthy information as well as to develop means of opposing the flow of false information.

Russian Ambassador to Hungary Vladimir Sergeyev gave a speech at the opening of the conference. He read greetings from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the conference participants. Prime Minister of Slovakia (1991-1992), Chairman of Slovako-Russian Friendship Society Yan Carnogursky, Deputy Director of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Tatiana Naumova, Editor-in-chief of International life magazine Armen Oganesyan were giving a word too.

The main topics for discussion were “Russia - Europe: is resetting of relations possible. Role of Mass Media”, “Revival of Neo-Nazism: Analysis of Media Technologies Used by Interested Parties. Counterstrategy” and Mass Media of Russia and Europe. An Outward Glance”.

Conference participants will discuss the role of mass media in relations between Russia and Europe, touching upon the subjects of false news’ abundance and historical stereotypes at the first session. They will study relations of European countries and Russia from the geopolitics point of view.

Participants of Mass Media of Russia and Europe. An Outward Glance session will compare approaches to the same events by Russian and European Mass Media sources. They will discuss the role of mass media in presenting events at the regional and macro regional levels.

International conference Russia and Europe: Topical Issues of Contemporary International Journalism is held annually in different countries. Management of European mass media sources, political figures, diplomats, scientists, management of international companies take part in this conference. The following conference will take place in Sofia in 2018 and will be timed with 150th anniversary of Bulgaria’s liberation from the Turkish rule.
