Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award conferred to Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa

Mario Vargas LlosaLaureate of the "Yasnaya Polyana" Prize in the Foreign Literature nomination is 81 years old Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, TASS reports. Seven years ago he won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Mario Vargas Llosa will come to our country to present his novel The Discreet Hero, recently published in Russia.

Peruvian writer, politician, journalist, essayist and college professor was born in 1936. He is the member of the Peruvian Academy. In 1990 he ran for the Peruvian presidency.

There are several works translated to Russian, many of his books are world-renowned bestsellers.

Let us remember, the nomination Foreign Literature was established in 2015. Since than US/Canadian writerRuth Ozeki was awarded for the novel My Fish Will Live and Turkish author Orhan Pamuk for A Strangeness in My Mind novel.

This year long list compressed authors from 10 countries. Unlike other literary awards, the Yasnaya Polyana jury doesn't create a short-list but define the laureate right from the long list. This year winner will get $20,800 while the Russian translator to receive $8,672.
